Thailand’s JAZZ gets his U.S Masters chance

Thai golfer Jazz Janewattananond is checking off a number of requirements of being a U.S Masters rookie this week.

The golfer has close friend, Pulit Thongtae, as caddie, and spent part of Tuesday skipping balls across the pond at No. 16.

Then, after playing nine holes Wednesday morning, Janewattananond made his way into the members merchandise shop.

“I spent $3,000 in three minutes,” Janewattananond said.

Janewattananond purchased hats, clothing and three limited edition Scotty Cameron putters.

Janewattananond qualified for the Masters by reaching the top-50 in the world rankings.

“It’s so exciting to be here,” Janewattananond said. “It’s really a dream come true.”

Jazz, from Bangkok, was the youngest player to make a cut on the Asian Tour, at age 14, and his first victory came in 2017 at the Bangladesh Open. It has been a steady climb up the rankings since then.

He also has taken guidance from Kiradech Aphibarnrat, a 29-year-old Thai golfer who has four European Tour wins, is ranked 41st in the world and plays the PGA Tour as well as in Europe and Asia.

“Kiradech is like my big brother,’ Jazz said. ‘It’s great to see him playing well out here. He’s taught me a lot of things.’

The 24-year-old will tee off at 7:11 a.m. Thursday alongside Charles Howell III and Brandt Snedeker.
