An local woman, exercising on Pattaya beach, was caught in a fierce argument with a city peacekeeping officer who ordered her to wear a face mask for the protection of others.
The lady did not like to be ordered around by a whipper-snapper, and told to cover her face, so a heated argument broke out between the two, which quickly went viral across social media.
Reporters later spoke to other beach users who said, ‘Most people who exercise on the beach are aware of the safety regulations and diligently wear their face masks. But you will find an odd person or two who are stubborn and will not listen to reason, let alone obey the emergency law governing safety and distancing from other people.’
Really…? This quote is provided by local Pattaya media and we don’t believe any Thai resident of Pattaya actually speaks, or even thinks, like this.
Another, who claims to train regularly on the beach noted, ‘I exercise every day to stay healthy and I always wear a face mask. But I find that wearing a face mask during exercise restricts my breathing, so I choose a face mask made from a thinner material.’
Well, good for you. But a thinner face mask does nothing to protect you or others from any form of virus. And nor does a thicker one.
What they both do is cause irreparable damage to the environment as this type of mindless sycophant throws billions of them away every day, which end up either in the sea, somewhere along the road or, if we are lucky, in landfill sites.
BUT, you are all willing to criticise a perfectly healthy lady who is minding her own business and taking her daily exercise.
More people, it seems, should be ‘minding their own business’ these days.
Instead these people, cajoled along by irresponsible local media reporting, are perfectly willing to be ordered around and instructed to wear this or that by city authorities in this new, dystopian world of theirs. (continues below)
Meanwhile, the pointless and hypocritical police chief, Maj. Jeerawat Sukontasap, who is laughingly responsible for peacekeeping and security in Pattaya City, aimlessly wandered around with his entourage, none of whom were wearing face-masks (see featured image above) ordering other, perfectly healthy, people to muzzle-up.
He blabbered to the local press, ‘The law states that every person must wear a face mask in public places at all times. Gatherings in public places and most especially drinking alcohol on the beaches are strictly prohibited.’
‘I have ordered my officers to strictly patrol all Pattaya streets and beaches. Their duties are to instruct and warn people to abide by the safety regulations as ordered by the authorities. No harsh punishment will be meted out except to those to deliberately break the law even after having been given due warning.’
He might have also added, ‘but I don’t have to wear one because I’m in charge around here and I don’t want to. Besides, how can I have my picture in the local paper wearing a stupid, needless, facemask. That’s for little people like you, not people in charge like me.
