The Ministry of Public Health yesterday dismissed social media rumours saying the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine is contaminated with radioactive substances, stressing that every batch imported into the country is inspected before doses are distributed.
Any vaccine supply failing to meet standards is normally suspended and recalled before being destroyed like in Japan, said Dr Chawetsan Namwat, director of the Emergency Health Hazard and Disease Control Division.
Thailand, like other countries, follows an international standard in the handling of jabs, he said.
As for lipid nanoparticles in the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine, which were also rumoured to be hazardous to humans, Dr Chawetsan said these particles are designed for the delivery of poorly soluble drugs, noting they are proven safe for use in humans.
The particles have been used in several drugs produced in the United States and Europe, he said.
He also dismissed a rumour saying mRNA vaccines cause severe reactions among patients.
