Some spas and massage parlours to re-open next week

Spas and traditional massage outlets will be allowed to reopen from Jan 26 in Ayutthaya province, under strict conditions.

Governor Panu Yaemsri said on Friday that the provincial committee on communicable disease control resolved to ease anti-Covid measures to allow businesses offering health services such as spas, traditional Thai massage and foot massage to reopen on a voluntarily basis, depending on their readiness, starting next Tuesday.

However, they must comply with conditions and advice issued by health authorities.

Operators and employees must first receive training from the provincial public health office.

When they reopen, customers must abide by health safety measures. Officials will inspect their premises, Mr Panu said.

Ayutthaya had one new Covid-19 infection, raising the total number of cases in the second wave to 41. Of the total, 36 patients had already recovered, with five under treatment, the  governor said.

The new case was the 41-year-old wife of previously confirmed case No.16 in the province. The couple lived in Wang Noi district.

On Tuesday this week, traditonal massage operators and therapists petitioned provincial authorities to relax anti-Covid measures.
