Soviet style CHECK-POINT CHARLIES around Chonburi

Jail and 40,000 THB fines for those breaching provincial checkpoints

Soviet style CHECK-POINTS have been set up around Chonburi to prevent the free movement of citizens in, out and around the province.

It is now compulsory to present approval papers demonstrating your permission to travel to and from the province and, in some cases, around it.

Anybody attempting to evade CHECK-POINTS faces a 40,000 fine and two-years in jail.

Pictures have been released by Thai media of huge traffic jams at the road-blocks.

Police AND soldiers are examining documentation and looking for those travelling without the proper papers.

In total there are 17 checkpoints across 11 districts.

Who would have thought a story would have been written like this in modern times?
