Written permission now needed to leave Pattaya

After long queues formed at district offices in Chonburi and anger mounted, Pattaya’s mayor Sontaya Khunpluem has okayed the use of a building to report essential travel for those having to leave the Pattaya area.

It is at City Hall and will be open between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm.

It is only for people who reside in Pattaya or who are registered there on a “tabien baan” (house registration document).

Proof of this, and a reason why travel is necessary, must be taken to obtain the necessary permission.

People not living in Pattaya need to go to district or local offices as previously announced.

Company employees can get permission to pass provincial boundaries at checkpoints on production of reason for travel, company stamp and job description details.

The office for residents is on the first floor of Building 2 and from pictures on 77kaoded it looked like a canteen had been commandeered.

Meanwhile Thai Rath reported that there was an angry crowd of people queueing around the block at the main district office in Muang Chonburi.

Many were company employees.

They complained about slow processing of documents and thought they should get permission to travel of up to a month. – Thai Rath
