An Australian man was left injured after a bar fight in Pattaya in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A row reportedly began between Australian national 52 year old Troy Robert, and a Thai man between 20 and 25 years old, over a brief exchange of looks. The incident happened at the UB Me Bar on Soi Pattaya 7.
After the two men looked at each other in a way that appeared threatening, Robert reportedly advanced on the Thai man and got into a loud verbal disagreement, and then ended up getting assaulted, said witness Lameat Mongkhon.
Lameat said that everyone at the bar tried to break up the fight, but they were unsuccessful. Robert suffered bleeding and non-life-threatening head injuries, The Pattaya News reported.
He was reportedly punched and knocked to the ground in front of the bar. The Thai man fled the scene before Pattaya Police showed up.
Rescuers brought Robert to a nearby hospital at around 1.30am.
Police confirmed that Robert was intoxicated and that he admitted to starting the argument. Robert later apologised to restaurant owners, staff, and police for the incident. However, it was reported that the Thai man could still be summoned for legal consequences.
As a city known for its nightlife, Pattaya has its share of late-night brawls, often fuelled by alcohol and other substances.
In November last year, Indian tourists were injured in a fight with a ganja seller on Pattaya’s Walking Street.
The weed seller said the tourists had bought ice cream from a shop near his stall when they came to sit down at one of his tables. The seller said the tourists knocked some of his weed containers off of the table, damaging them.
After the seller asked for 90,000 baht in compensation for damages, a fight broke out. – The Thaiger
