VIDEO: Senior cop arrested after SHOOTING unarmed man

A police lieutenant colonel is facing three charges, including attempted murder, after shooting a man trying to protect his mother from him in #Thailand.

Pol Lt Col Pakorn Sengthong has been charged with attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and carrying it in public without a permit.

Pol Col Kritsana Pattanacharoen, deputy police spokesman, said on Thursday he had received a report from police investigating the incident.

The shooting occurred when the victim’s mother was withdrawing money from an ATM in front of the Krungthai Bank (KTB) Matulee Road branch in tambon Pak Nampho around 6.15am on Tuesday.

The victim was waiting for his mother inside his car.

Another man arrived on a motorcycle. He went over to talk with the woman, prompting her son to get out of his car and stand near her.

The man then rode away on his motorcycle, but returned about five minutes later. He walked up to the woman and told her he was a police officer, although he was not wearing a uniform. He accused her of illegally lending money.

The woman’s son, who was still standing near his mother, asked the man to show his police card, but he  refused.

The officer said he would call more police, and then grabbed the woman’s arm. This riled her son, who punched him to the ground.

As the fight continued, a gunshot was fired and the son was wounded. After receiving treatment at a hospital, he filed a complaint with local police.

The incident was recorded on video.

Pol Col Kritsana said police investigators confirmed the man involved was a police lieutenant colonel. He  had been charged with attempted murder and illegally possessing and carrying a firearm. The suspect denied all charges.

The deputy spokesman said the officer’s immediate commander would set up a fact-finding panel and take appropriate criminal and legal action against him.

On Wednesday, Pol Col Weeraphas Huaihongthong, chief of Muang police station, said that investigators had summonsed Pol Lt Col Pakorn Sengthong, attached to Provincial Police Region 6, for questioning over Tuesday’s incident.

He said the officer fired a shot at Wisit Wongsawatpakdee, 41, owner of a meatball business in Nakhon Sawan.

Pol Lt Col Pakorn claimed he was also injured in the brawl and sought treatment at a hospital.

The officer  arrived at the police station on Wednesday morning and immediately left upon seeing a crew of reporters waiting there.

Pol Maj Samart Sarot, an investigator handling the case, confirmed to reporters that police had pressed charges of attempted murder, illegal possession of a firearm and carrying it in publicwithout permission. The man denied all charges, he said. – Bangkok Post
