Australian tourist found dead in Phuket hotel pool

An Australian tourist has been found dead in a hotel swimming pool in Phuket on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old man’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.

He was found in the pool at the Nai Harn Beach Resort in tambon Rawai about 6am, Pol Lt Col Prasit Ra-ob, investigation chief at Chalong police station, said.

The body was dressed in black shorts and a long-sleeved shirt.

Police investigators learned the man had a bipolar disorder and suffered from depression.

He had attempted suicide on several occasions, according to police.

His body was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Thai media reported that the dead tourist was a former police officer. – Bangkok Post
