Flood water still persists in 22 provinces, rivers in the North and Northeast are overflowing, more rains are coming and further flood warnings throughout the country, except for the South, authorities said.
Monsoons and Tropical Storm Noru last week led to floods in 25 provinces where 4,348 households were affected and 3 people died, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported.
Heavy rain and flashfloods led to flooding which still persists in 16 provinces, mostly in the North and Northeast, including Lamphun, Lampang, Sukhothai, Phetchabun, Phichit, Tak, Uttaradit, Nan, Phrae, Sisaket, Ubon Ratchathani, Khon Kaen, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram and Prachinburi.
Overflowing rivers are still affecting 6 provinces, mostly in the Central Region including Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Pathum Thani, Sing Buri and Chai Nat.
The overflows of the Ping River in Chiang Mai led to flooding in many districts along the river, up to 80 centimeters in some areas. The water level in the river was at 4.54 meters this morning, nearly 1 meter above the crisis level.
The National Water Command Centre also warned of overflowing and flooding along the Yom River, especially in low-lying of Sukhothai, Phitsanulok and Phichit from October 2 onwards.
More rains are coming throughout the country today with a 70-80% chance of rain in 44 provinces, including the Bangkok Metropolitan Region.
Similar weather is expected between now and October 4 with a 40-60% chance of rain throughout the country and heavy rain in some areas.
The DDPM warned of further flash floods in the North, Northeast and Central regions this week including:
North: Lampang, Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Tak, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun
Northeast: Loei and Chaiyaphum
Central: Kanchanaburi
There is also a warning of floodwater from overflowing rivers and waterways in:
North: Chaing Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Uttaradit, Phrae, Nan, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Tak and Nakhon Sawan
Northeast: Chaiyaphum, Khon Kean, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani
Central: Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Prachinburi and Sa Kaeo – Thai Enquirer
