Sitthichai Ekkapan, a photographer from Ubon Ratchathani, decided to built makeshift tents after he came across abandoned dogs in the northeast parts of the country.

Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani, Yasothon, Roi Et and Si Saket provinces were inundated with water as deep as four metres after tropical storms Podul and Kajiki ripped through the region, killing at least 33 people two weeks ago.

Ekkapan has since been helping with the flood-relief work.

‘Just seeing them [dogs] come to live in the house and have a slightly better living condition has made me happy,’ he wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday.

He has been building the tents using donated discarded items such as wood, vinyl, hoardings and wire.

In a series of posts since September 20, Ekkapan said he hasn’t sought any donation, but some people have voluntarily donated items such as solar batteries for the cause.

The pictures posted by him showed dogs have been well-feed and resting in tents.

Ekkapan said he won’t stop until he finds shelter for all the marooned and abandoned dogs.
