CYCLISTS BEWARE – Your bike is CASH

Former security guard dressed in lycra to steal expensive bicycles in Bangkok

Bicycles have been in high demand during the 2021 shake down and a former Bangkok condo security guard saw an opportunity to make a little easy cash.

Using his experience and understanding of condo complexes the thief targeted expensive, branded models, disabled tracking systems and simply rode off on unlocked bikes.

Many ex-pats rely on their complex security staff and leave their bikes unlocked in what they think are secure areas.

Wearing lycra cycling sports kit nobody took any notice as the cunning crook simply rode off with thousands of baht worth of booty.

Met region 5 chief Pol Maj-Gen Samart Srisiriwiboonchai said that the bikes were fenced to sellers in the Ramkhamhaeng area.

Sellers who must have known the bikes were stolen as they were picking up models worth 180,000 baht for only 2-3000 baht each.

The fences (bicycle shops) are always the real problem here as they provide the quick-cash marketplace for petty crooks. Many even have them stolen to order.

This works in the same way as Pattaya gold shops who provide a cash market place for thieving ladyboys.

Police have identified twenty-eight crimes and, so far, only eight owners have come forward.

Klong Tan police are appealing for other victims to contact them.

The thefts all occurred in the Pattanakan area of the Thai capital.
