American killed in Chonburi paramotor crash

Friends identified the man as “Denis”, aged 60

An American pilot plunged to the ground on Wednesday (April 1) when his powered paraglider suffered a catastrophic problem after take-off.

Responding to a call at 8am, Sattahip Police Station deployed a police and rescue team to the scene of the accident near Huay Too 1 Reservoir in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district.

They found the victim lying on the ground with severe injuries including deep lacerations to his chest.

Friends identified the man as “Denis”, aged 60. Close by was the mangled wreckage of his paramotor.

The rescue team administered first aid and sent him to Wat Yansangwararam Hospital, but he died soon after reaching the emergency room.

His friends told police that the victim had arrived for paraglide practice early and took off before everyone else.

Soon after taking to the skies, his machine showed signs of a mechanical fault.

As the wind strengthened, he lost control and the power-glider plunged to the ground.

Police have contacted the US Embassy so that the victim’s family can be informed of his death. – The Nation
