Last year the country’s first female tourism minister vowed to shut down the country’s many brothels and go-go bars.

.
Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said she wanted future holidaymakers to flock to Thailand for its beauty and beaches and not its seedy red light districts and world-famous ladyboys.

But those working in the industry said any clampdown would devastate the local economy and leave thousands out of work.

The haunting pictures were taken by Boogie, a photographer born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, where he learnt his trade snapping the rebellion and civil war which ravaged the country during the 1990s.

Images show a half-naked prostitute lying in a doorway, while others dance on a tiny stage in a run-down bar.

Other pictures show Thai boxers pumping themselves up for brutal and bloody fights.

On his website, Boogie says growing up in a war-torn country defined his realist style and attraction to the darker side of human existence.

He moved to New York City in 1998 and his solo exhibitions include Paris, New York, Tokyo, Milan, Istanbul and Los Angeles.
