Thailand loses Chinese tourists and now scurry to win them back.

Deputy PM Somkid Jatusripitak said that the treasury will be suggesting a series of stimulus measures to promote tourism.

The Thai tourist industry has fallen short of expectation across the board this year.

Targets have not been met.

Strangely, Thai Visa then reported ‘while tourism continues to increase it has not been as much as hoped.’

The huge dip in revenue is thought to follow the Phuket Boat Disaster and the Thai authorityies’ poor response to it.

Thai Rath reported that Immigration will be pressing the government to waive visa fees for Chinese Nationals.

It is hoped this will encourage them to start coming back, which is unlikely but worth a try.

However, Yutthasak Suphasorn of the Tourism Authority of Thailand suggested it was not bad news.

Instead Yutthasak claimed that the numbers or arrivals has gone up again this year.

But to meet targets into 2019 TAT must encourage more new arrivals to replace the Chinese (previously) estimated numbers.

How the Thais are killing their own tourist industry
