Thai media honours brave former Navy Seal diver ‘Sam’ who died in the flooded Tham Luang Cave during the operation to rescue 12 trapped children and their football coach.
Thai media Sanook paid tribute to Sam in an article yesterday and noted that millions of baht had been raised for his family.
They pointed out that one of Sam’s final wishes was that all the Wild Boar boys and their coach could be brought out alive, despite the extremely dangerous conditions they faced. Sam lost his life in the attempt.
Sanook spoke for the Thai people when they said, ‘We hope that you are looking down from somewhere and see the great joy that your incredible sacrifice has brought. You are a hero to the Thai people and we love you and respect you for what you have done.’
A fund-raising run called ‘Run for Saman 060718’ has already been held and popular TV presenter Kalamae Patcharasri Benjamas announced that Baht 3,565,416 baht has been raised for the family of the national hero.
The money will be presented to Sam’s family during a service to remember his life and achievements.
