Police in southern Thailand resort of Phuket say at least seven missing as rough seas overturn two tourist boats

Two boats with more than 100 passengers on board sank and two Russians went missing off the Phuket coast on Thursday.

Phuket governor Norapat Plodthong said the Phoenix PD Diving boat with 97 people sank off Koh Hae at 5.45pm.

At Koh Mai Ton, a yatch carrying around 30 people also sank, he said.

In a separate incident, a Russian couple lost contact after they drove a jet ski near Koh Racha.

A number of tourists of Pheonix PD were lucky to be rescued by a passing fishing trawler.

The Royal Thai Navy and marine police have reportedly sent vessels to help them.

Strong winds and rough seas hit the resort island on Thursday evening.
