An HIV-positive Victorian former pig farmer is due to be sentenced for child abuse charges relating to victims in Thailand.
Howard Hawke, 69, repeatedly phoned a woman in Thailand and talked about sexual activity with her two-year-old granddaughter.
He had calls intercepted by police in 2016 in which he talked about “depraved sexual activity” with the toddler during his next trip overseas.
“He wanted to go overseas with the intention of procuring babies,” crown prosecutor Krista Breckweg told the County Court last week.
Hawke has pleaded guilty to some charges and is due to be sentenced in the County Court on Thursday.
But he denies planning to have sex with the child, claiming the phone calls were “fantasy” and that he was just “a bit of a pervert”.
The court has previously been told Hawke sold his West Australian piggery in 2006 for more than a million dollars, funding his retirement.
He then travelled extensively through South East Asia and became “involved in the extremely sexualised environment” of Thailand.
Hawke also made a violent video of the woman’s 16-year-old daughter in which she was whipped while wearing a dog collar with her wrists bound. – AAP
