A boy who claims he had sex with his school teacher when he was just 15 told his mum an “older lady” asked him to go to Thailand with her, a court heard.
A jury heard how the teenager told his mother the lady had asked him to travel to the Asian country with her for a year after revealing their alleged relationship.
Deborah Lowe, who is on trial at Minshull Street Crown Court, stands accused of one count of sexual activity with a child and five counts of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust.
But while the 53-year-old admits to having sex with the boy, she says she did so when he was 17 and had left school and denies the charge.
The exact time the relationship began is the central issue in the trial that the jury must decide, the court heard.
During the third day of the trial, the court heard how Lowe had paid £400 for the boy to get a tattoo.
His mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court how she was against him getting a tattoo and her son had told her it would be paid for by an “older lady”.
The witness told the court: “He mentioned that he had seen an older lady and when I asked him exactly how old her said 36.
“Obviously I said it wasn’t appropriate to be seeing someone more than double your age.
“And then I asked him again after a couple of weeks because I wanted to get to the bottom of it and he said she was 38. I said ‘well she’s aging quite fast’.”
A few weeks later the court heard her son mentioned the lady had asked him to go to Thailand for a year.
His mother added: “I said ‘not a chance. Over my dead body would he be allowed to go.”
His mother said she “constantly delved” to try and find out information about the “older lady” her son had mentioned.
She described how she then went to the tattoo studio to find out “who had paid for it and who had taken him there”.
It was at this point the mother found out the woman was Deborah Lowe after she showed the tattooist Lowe’s Facebook photo, the court heard.
The jury heard how the pair enjoyed secret liaisons at Lowe’s flat, her caravan and in her car, and Lowe, a school head of pastoral care, liked to be called a “slut” during rough sex, where he pulled her hair and she bit and scratched his back until it bled.
The boy told jurors it was “every lad’s fantasy” but admitted later feeling “creeped out” because of the age gap.
Facing questions from the witness box, he denied lying to exploit the “foolish infatuation” Lowe had for him.
Neil Usher, defending Lowe, questioned why he had contacted The Sun newspaper to sell his story.
And he suggested that the boy had changed his story, claiming the affair started when he was 15 and still a schoolboy, instead 17 when he had left school.
Mr Usher said: “The truth is that you approached her for sex for the first time months after you left school in December 2016, didn’t you?”
The teenager answered: “No.”
The jury has heard that police were called after the boy’s mother found a card Lowe sent to him, saying “Who else can I be a slut with?”.
But he initially told officers who came to investigate that the relationship started after he had left school, Mr Usher said.
He suggested he made the claims about having sex with Lowe while still at school because he was an “attention-seeking fantasist” who liked telling “tall stories” about his sexual encounters.
“No,” the boy repeated.
Mr Usher continued: “And you have cynically and dishonestly exploited this foolish infatuation that this older lady had for a 17-year-old for your own ends, haven’t you?”
The witness again replied: “No.”
Earlier, the court heard that the pair began a sexual relationship after “flirting” at school and then swapping phone numbers and engaging in phone sex, with Lowe texting him: “You make me so horny.”
Sex carried on when he turned 17, at her caravan, up until the summer of last year, it is alleged.
Later she sent him a text saying he was “the best f** shag I have ever had in my life”, the jury heard.
The trial continues. – Mirroronline
