Tour bus in FATAL COLLISION with truck in Thailand – 16 dead and dozens injured
A DEADLY collision between a tour bus and an 18-wheel trailer truck killed at least 16 people and injured more than 35 in Wang Nam Khiao, in the South of Thailand.
Thai rescue workers said that the driver of the tour bus may have lost control of the vehicle on a downhill curve on winding Highway 304 in Wang Nam Khiao district near Khao Yai National Park.
It is then thought it crossed into the opposite lane, ending up face to face with a trailer truck coming from the opposite direction.
The impact of the collision sent both vehicles plunging into a roadside ditch, where the bus hit roadside trees and overturned.
The crash happened in the Thai Wang Nam Khiao district in the Nakhon Ratchasima province at 7.30pm (12.30pm GMT).
The bus, which had 50 people on board, was heading to Thailand’s province of Kalasin after a sight-seeing trip in Chanthaburi, a touristic area located in eastern Thailand.
Authorities reported that six men and ten women have lost their lives.
More than 35 people have been injured, many of them seriously.
Rescue workers said that many people were trapped inside the wreckage when they arrived on location.
The driver of the bus survived the crash and will be interrogated, Pol Col Jeerawat Prayoonsub said.
The injured were taken to Wang Nam Khiao, Pak Thongchai, Suranaree Technology University, Krungthep Ratchasima and Nakhon Ratchasima Maharaj hospitals.
Authorities haven’t yet disclosed the identities of those killed.
