Jodie Smith last week tried to recover nine-year-old Joleon, allegedly snatched by his Thai-born mum.
The carer, 41, was held at Bangkok airport on Wednesday.
Sean Felton, of charity Abducted Angels, was detained days later.
It is understood both face allegations of trespassing at the home of Jintra Jummaimuang Smith, 31, who vanished with her son in November. Mr Felton denies the allegation.
Mr Smith, of Edinburgh, also faces charges of abduction from Sakon Nakhon province, where he is in jail.
Joleon’s gran Lidia Smith, 67, tonight claimed the boy asked his dad to take him home.
She said: “I believe Joleon has been returned to his mum.
“I’ve had no contact with Jodie since and I have no idea what he’s going through.”
Local MP Christine Jardine said the Foreign Office was advising.
Lidia is appealing for help with her son’s £5,000 legal costs at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/joe-smith-5
