Security officers have warned of potential terrorist attacks in the upper Southern Region provinces, and surveillance authorities in the South have been put on high alert.

National authorities have urgently warned local officials in all provinces of the upper Southern Region about the possibility of terrorist attacks.

Authorities have received information that insurgency groups plan to stage attacks on vulnerable targets such as department stores, tourist attractions and government buildings.

This follows attacks in seven Southern provinces in August last year.

The authorities have suggested that local officials increase their security surveillance, and encourage people to look for suspicious behaviour or items to prevent any attack. – The Nation
