If any further proof were needed that Australian politicians have become reckless & foolhardy then this month’s gun amnesty in New South Wales provides the necessary evidence.
In June the Australian government said it believed there were as many as 260,000 illegal weapons and that, in the face of increasing terror threats, they wanted to ‘minimise the danger.’
The 6000 guns surrendered in only one month included four SKS assault rifles, a 9mm homemade submachine gun, a Colt AR-15 rifle, M1 carbine and a .44 calibre magnum revolver, state police said.
In total, some 1,700 rifles, 460 shotguns and nearly 200 handguns were surrendered to police and dealers, while thousands of others were handed in for registration.
‘We’ve also received more than 110 prohibited weapons including samurai swords, knives, and other edged weapons,’ Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Hoffman said.
No official figures have been announced yet for other states and territories.
Gun control measures continue to have strong public support in Australia, suggesting that the Australian public have failed to learn from events in Europe over the last three-years.
In the first place it is safe to assume that nobody who is planning a terror attack, of any kind, is going to submit their weapon of choice during an amnesty. Bad guys with bad intent do not take advantage of publicised amnesties to disarm themselves.
Instead they will be delighted that there are now 6,000 fewer guns likely to resist them when they do carry out their brutal attacks on unarmed, innocent citizens.
Which they will, sooner or later. Islamic extremists have told us repeatedly what they have in store for those they describe as infidels. It is time we had the decency to believe them.
Instead, the Australian government has responded with a campaign to disarm all the good guys. The ones you hope are passing by when a terrorist points his gun at your family.
This is no time for gun amnesties or disarming.
Western governments are now way past incompetent. They have, it seems, become reckless with their protection of peaceful citizens, if not quite willing accomplices – yet.
