A Canadian who had been arrested in Bangkok under a international warrant issued by the United States has been found dead in his police cell.

Twenty-six year old Alexander Cazes had been arrested on July 5 and was being held awaiting extradition, anti-narcotics bureau chief Lt. Gen Sommai Kongwisaisuk said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

When a guard checked his cell at 7am he was found to be hanging from a towel attached to the door.

Cazes was an alleged drug trafficker in the United States who had fled to Thailand in an attempt to avoid arrest.

American authorities had forwarded an arrest warrant after his whereabouts was discovered last month and Bangkok narcotics officers moved in to detain him in the east of the city. – BangkokJack News Team
