City police commissioner Pol Lt General Sanit Mahatavorn on Sunday chaired a meeting of Bangkhen police after a taxi driver allegedly tried to rape a passenger and robbed her of Bt2,000 cash.
The incident followed the arrest the previous day of an unlicensed taxi driver who allegedly robbed and raped a Chinese tourist in a separate incident.
In regards to the former case, Banghen police were alerted at 3am on Sunday that a taxi driver had tried to rape a Thai woman near the entrance of the Army golf course on Ramindra Road.

The woman, 20, whose name was not revealed, told police that she took the taxi from the mouth of Soi Samai 63 to the second Mor Chit bus terminal at about 2am. She was rushing to go back to her home province of Sukhothai after receiving a call from her family that her mother was sick.
She said she planned to arrive at the bus terminal and buy a ticket for the first bus home but the taxi driver stopped at the entrance of the golf course and tried to rape her.
She fought back and managed to open the door before running away but the driver allegedly snatched Bt2,000 in cash from her handbag.
The woman was told to have a medical examination before going to Sukhothai. Police gave her money for a bus ticket and saw her off at the bus terminal. – The Nation
