Bloody student violence in Thailand leaves one dead

One technical college student was killed and four others wounded in a renewed student violence in Nonthaburi province on Thursday.

The incident, the worst in this new educational semester, occurred in front of a market near Major Department Store in Nonthaburi.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of technical students from Bangplad area was seen waving their hands on the roadside for their rivals from Dusit who were riding pass in motorcycles in a defiant manner.

Their defiant manner enraged the rival students on the motorcycles who returned shortly afterwards with knives, swords in hands.

Both side ran towards each other and fierce fighting broke out.

The brief fighting resulted in five seriously injured with cut and stab wounds, one of them fatally injured.

Police and rescuers from a charity foundation were alerted and immediately rushed all the injured to Phra Nangklao hospital. However one student succumbed to death for serious stab and cut wounds on his head and body.

Police are examining video footages from several surveillance cameras in the area to look for these unruly technical students for court trial. – ThaiPBS
