A viral video follows an unfit Japanese police officers as he chases an overweight thief.
A would-be jewelry thief in Japan became so tired from trying to outrun the law that a cop chasing him down was able to nab him.
The suspect entered an Elizabeth Jewelers branch in the Chuo Ward of the city of Sapporo and attempted to rob the store at around 5:20 p.m. local time on May 23.
But a police officer arrived on the scene before he could get his hands on anything, causing the suspect to run off.
The officer chased after him through the streets of Sapporo and even oncoming traffic.
“These two guys were sprinting really fast, and they ran right across the intersection even though the light was red,” an eyewitness said, according to SoraNews24.
The video below shows the man wearing a mask, gloves and a pair of fancy sunglasses to hide his identity, and it seems like he was jogging away instead of running.
The chase lasted for six minutes before the police officer, who also appeared to be out of breath, put the suspect in a headlock and apprehended him.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” the officer said as he pinned the man to the ground and radioed for backup.
Netizens got into a debate on who ran the slowest — the suspect or the officer?
“Wow, those dudes look worn out,” one wrote.
“I think the guy who filmed this is faster than either of them,” another commented.
The police later issued a statement saying that no injuries were reported during the incident, and that the suspect was quickly arrested.
