Terrifying images show spectators diving for cover as powerful fireworks explode towards a huge crowd of people during a show.
Hundreds of people had been watching the ‘legend of the 12th zodiac’ display in the Thailand tourist resort of Krabi when things went horribly wrong.
The fireworks display began during a performance by female Thai dancers – but one of the racks of explosives was knocked over
The fireworks exploded on the ground – showering dozens of nearby spectators and dancers with hot flames and sparks.
Medics rushed 23 people, including four children, to hospital to be treated for cuts and burns after the incident at the show organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Pittisak Udorn, who had been at the event, said: “Many of the dancers were injured because they were closes to the fireworks.
“There were also young children and students from schools that were there. They were also hurt and old people.
“People were screaming. Nobody knew what was happening.
“The fireworks had already started so they couldn’t be stopped.
“I was in the crowd but further back so I wasn’t injured.”
The fireworks display began at around 9pm but went wrong just moments into the grand finale.
The Office of the Provincial Administration of Krabi said they had started an investigation into the incident.
