RAYONG – A Chinese tourist drowned after taking a swim off Koh Samet on Sunday.

Pol Capt Kittipong Ngobudda of Phe police station said the tourist from China, 60, died while swimming near the famous Sai Kaew beach on the resort island.

A preliminary investigation pointed to a cramp that might have been the cause of death as he was swimming for hours and might have been exhausted, the police said.

The Chinese man was on a one-day trip to the island with 29 others in a tour group from Pattaya, Neawna online reported. His body was sent to Rayong Hospital, it added.

Koh Samet in Rayong is popular for visitors from China.
