Most of us might not give a thought to coat hooks in ladies’ toilets or dressing rooms. But if you see a coat hanger that looks similar to this, you are advised to leave straight away.
Women are being urged to pay closer attention when in public toilets and dressing rooms, as a discrete looking hook which contains a small camera could be there.
The hook looks just like an ordinary coat hook, and could be mistaken for a regular door hanger.
However, the hooks have a small camera in them and are available to buy on Amazon.
And whoever has placed the miniature camera in the room can retrieve and download anything it has filmed on its computer, the Mirror reports.
Last year, a police force in Florida sent a warning about the clothes hooks as they were being attached to walls in women’s public toilets – including one at a beach.
At the time, a Florida Keys sheriff said: “Anyone who has a public restroom on their property needs to check them closely.
“If you find anything suspicious you think might contain a hidden camera, don’t touch it. Call us right away and we will respond.
“Keep in mind, though, that these are very small cameras that can be mounted in many locations and hidden in many seemingly everyday items.”
The “spy camera coat hooks” work by filming through a small hole at the top of the plastic hanger.
On Amazon, reviewers praised the product saying the quality of video was good and it was a “great way to check on the babysitter when you’re not home”.
The hooks are available to buy online in the UK, so could potentially end up being used in a public place.
Which means women may want to be cautious when approaching public toilets or dressing rooms.
