ALOR SETAR: Police have rescued three Thai women believed to be victims of sexual exploitation.

State CID chief Senior Asst Comm (SAC) Datuk Mohd Nashir Ya said the women, aged between 24 and 31, were rescued from a budget hotel in Mergong here about 10.30pm Wednesday.

He said the Anti-Human Trafficking and Anti-Vice unit raided the hotel and detained the caretaker, who has been remanded for further investigations while the women have been placed at a shelter.

“Among items found by the raiding team related to prostitution activities were 43 packets of condoms, a KY Jelly tube and a notebook believed to be filled with customer lists,” SAC Mohd Nashir said in a statement Thursday.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 12 of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

If found guilty, the offender faces up to 15 years in jail and a fine.
