A passenger has been fined VND4 million (US$180) for yelling at and verbally attacking attendants aboard a Hanoi-bound plane from Ho Chi Minh City on Monday, delaying the flight for nearly an hour.

The incident took place on board the Vietjet flight VJ134 at 9:10 pm, when the woman, Tran Thi T., 44, started shouting angrily upon boarding, according to the Southern Airports Authority.

A video of the scene showed T. repeatedly yelling at the flight attendants near the second and third rows of seats. One passenger attempted to stop the quarrelsome woman but was also verbally attacked.

The flight captain was seen entering the cabin and insisting that the woman leave the plane.

T., hailing from Hanoi’s Thanh Xuan District, refused to follow the captain’s order until airport security officers showed up to take her out.

Flight VJ134 eventually had to take off 50 minutes behind schedule.

According to the five-minute footage seen by Tuoi Tre News, the woman repeatedly said she had “bought thousands of tickets” from the airline, and that “[her] seat is of business class, not the economy one.”

The Southern Airports Authority said the passenger was apparently showing disagreement after the flight boarding gate was changed from 20 to 7.

The change was well announced via the loudspeaker system and it is unclear why it made the Hanoi woman angry.

T. eventually refused to sign in the case record. The Southern Airports Authority said on Tuesday the fine decision has been transferred to the authority of her registered residence.
