Smash and grab diamond robbery over in six seconds


In a daring smash-and grab operation that lasted exactly six seconds, a man used a hammer to break the window of a jewelry shop in Tsim Sha Tsui and vanished with a ring worth HK$5 million.

The robber left the hammer he used to smash the window glass behind.

Security camera images show the man wearing a cap and sunglasses approaching the shop and smashing the glass with a hammer. Some frightened pedestrians can be seen scurrying away. The incident happened around 11am.

The man shattered the glass, reached inside and grabbed the ring and fled. The whole episode was over in six seconds, according to the CCTV footage. The shop said the stolen item was a 6.6-carat diamond ring.
