A burglar has been nabbed after breaking into a computer repair shop in the south-central city of Phan Thiet, not knowing he was caught by CCTV capable of alerting store’s owner within seconds.

Duong Thanh Hiep, 33, is being detained by police after the failed break-in on February 27, officers said Saturday.

At 2:55 am that day, Hiep burglarized the office of Le Thanh Co., which sells and repairs computers and surveillance cameras, dressed as a ‘ghost’ with a white coat, a cap and a face mask.

His action was captured by the company’s camera right from the beginning, with the system automatically notifying the shop owner via a text message to his smartphone.

The company’s owner immediately called the police, with officers eventually entering the shop at 3:04 am, when Hiep had managed to put two laptops into his bag.

The thief attempted to hide under a chair after seeing police stormed in, but eventually had to give in.

Police said Hiep was a ‘professional theft’ with a criminal history that includes arrests for theft and burglary.
