A mini-van carrying thirteen passengers travelling from Singburi Province to Bangkok was being driven fast and dangerously when the passengers decided to take action.

Suspecting the driver to be drunk, after he had obviously been avoiding police check points, one of the passengers, Army Lance Corporal Nanthawat Suphanburi, managed to overpower the driver when he pulled up in traffic.

The police were called and thirty-eight-year old Mr Sompong, from Suphanburi Province, was found to have 241mg of alcohol in his blood stream.

He argued that he had only consumed half a bottle of Thai whisky and therefore could not be drunk.

His defence also included the statement that he was not the usual van driver and was only standing in for a friend at the last moment.

He has been arrested.
